A Fiji Islander at Buffalo State College

I am a Buffalo State student from the Fiji Islands. The Fiji Islands is an independent tropical island. Fiji has palm-lined beaches and coral reefs like many other parts of the South Pacific. Fiji is considered a safe destination. As a result, it is in the middle of a record-setting tourism boom. The biggest minority grouping in Fiji are Fijians of Indian extraction, many of whose illiterate ancestors signed contracts they may not have understood before coming to Fiji to work in the cane fields. My great great grand parents worked in the cane fields. That is how I ended up in Fiji. The British colonial administration sent agents to different parts of India to grab and ship hundreds of Indians to Fiji Islands to work in the sugar cane fields.

I think it is remarkable that you have come all the way from the Figi Islands to be a student. I give you so much credit trying to take classes in another language. I know if I went to Figi I would not understand a word. You are a hard worker and very organized student. Not only are you going to school but you are a full time mother and wife!! You are achieving so much in your life. Mohini, you are an inspiration to all of us!
